Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Had a wonderful Christmas this year...as if I expected any different.

Lolli got absolutely everything she asked for and is now sleeping soundly amidst all her new dolls, coloring books, and train engines. Tell ya what, she is one spoiled girl. But I'm one to talk. I got everything I wanted for Christmas, as well.

My husband and my family are so good to me. Or maybe they're just scared of my wrath. Either way, I love them and I LOVE presents!!!!!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I'm sad that it's over. It exudes such a feeling, ya know? I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that the entire point of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Savior.

But regardless of what or who you believe in, you can't deny the fact that the holidays are filled with warmth, love, and joy.

Whether you celebrate Christ's birth or simply the opportunity to come together as friends and family, I hope you had a wonderful holiday.

Until next year...

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town

This year is the first year in which Lolli actually understands the concept of Santa and is excited about Christmas.

Last year, we went to visit Santa and she was a bit apprehensive. She didn't scream and cry, but she did get a bit teary eyed and wouldn't really smile for the picture...until Santa shoved a sucker in her hand. But still no smile; she simply frowned less.

This year, I was preparing her for our Santa visit and she recalled last year's incident. She said, "I gon sit on Santa lap an not cry? An he give me a sucker?" She knew the drill.

So we' visited Santa this year not once, but twice. And each time, Lolli cooperated. She told the big man that she's been good all year and that she wants Thomas the Train train tracks for Christmas. She even told him that she'd leave him milk and cookies and for the reindeer, some carrots and water on the porch. So adorable, right?

Now that Lolli and Santa are on a first name basis, Lolli has made him her go-to guy. Watching cartoons, Lolli will see commercials come on advertising new toys and games. Following each commercial, she'll turn to me and say, "Mama, I want that!" I'll respond saying, "No. We don't need to get that. You already have lots of toys." She'll retort, "But I love it! Santa will get it for me."

Really? Santa will get it for you? He's your personal shopper and will just get you every little thing your heart desires with no restraint? Uh, no. No he will not.

Except...he has.

Lolli is so spoiled. She will be getting absolutely every little thing she has asked for this year...and then some.

Santa is a big pushover.

Santa Baby

Dear Santa,

I know it's getting down to the wire and I haven't been to visit you at the mall yet. So, here's a quick...ok, a detailed list of the things I'd like for Christmas this year.

Donations to the LLS
You know the drill by now. I'm raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and running my third marathon with Team in Training. My goal is to raise $1000 by April. Therefore, I am accepting donations as Christmas gifts. Or, make a donation in the name of someone else as a Christmas gift to them. The options are endless! Visit my fundraising website to make a secure online donation using your credit card. And as always, donations are 100% tax deductible. See? It's the gift that keeps on giving!

Makeup
Obsessed right now. Completely. Anything and everything. Love love love.

Riding Boots
Once again, I found a pair of boots that fit my calves. Granted, they are from the plus-size store but hey, I got plus size calves, ok?? Deal with it. Regardless, I love these boots and absolutely have to have them in the camel color.

Copycat Anthropologie Necklace
Darling little Elaine over at Clothed Much has a necklace like this and it's suc a cute and simple way to add pizazz to any outfit. I've been looking all over the world for something similar and not nearly as expensive as the one from Anthro. Plus, I really wanted a pink one just like Elain's. I finally found it on Ebay of all places. Santa, the auction ends in like 5 days. You best get to bidding.

Scarf
I'm kinda infatuated with the infinity scarves right now. I have a cute and trendy striped on but I"d love a knitted one in an oatmeal color. A great neutral...to wear with my new riding boots!

Tanning Pass
Home girl is getting WHITE!!! You'd never guess I was Polynesian...save for the nose...and the dark hair...and the wide shoulders...and the ginormous calves...

So with Christmas a week away, you think you could hook a sista up? Thanks, Santa. You da bomb.

Christmas Shoes

I swear, each year they start playing Christmas music earlier and earlier. The day after Halloween, the non-stop music started on FM 100 and KOSY 1065. I can't really complain, though, 'cause I really enjoy Christmas music. But, I do think it's crazy that we haven't even had Thanksgiving yet and there are already houses displaying Christmas trees in their bay windows. Poor Thanksgiving. Christmas is stealing your thunder!

Anyways, I'm driving home after a run and I tune into KOSY. Through the static of flipping though channels I hear, "Sir, I wanna buy these shoes for my mama, please."

I literally screamed and punched the dial button to off. Not even exaggerating one little bit.

I hate hate HATE that song with the fire of a thousand suns!!! It's so cheesy, corny, and saturated in sap that I wanna throw up just thinking about the ridiculousness of it.

Now, I'm too scared to ever turn the radio back on for fear of that horrible song violating my ears.

~shudder~

Ramblings

1) Twice this weekend I attempted to run 18 miles. Twice this weekend I have failed. Made it 13.5 today. Not even close! Next weekend I'll try again. But I have to wonder, why do I even bother? I mean, really. Why run marathons? I hate running! It's hard. It's sweaty. It sucks! In all honesty, the only real reason why I won't let myself stop is for bragging rights. I'm pretty vain.

2) I'm so glad my friend Shauna is in town. As much as she hates being in Utah and misses L.A., I'm secretly ecstatic that her week-long trip here has extended into a 3-week trip. I love hanging out with Shauna. She makes me feel normal again. Plus, she sings Broadway duets with me. Best friend ever, right?

PS
You should really check out Shauna's blog. She gets it.

3) Sister Wives is the most disgusting, most revolting, and most barfiest show of all time. I can't stop watching it.

4) My birthday is this week. Only 4 more days. (I know you've been counting down.) I can't wait! I love love LOVE presents 'cause not only am I vain, but I'm also superficial.

5) I've been in a crazy reading mode lately. I want to read anything I can get my hands on. I generally have at least 2 books going at a time plus I'm listening to an audiobook on my iPod while I run. I finally cracked open The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to see what all the fuss was about. So far, I'm not impressed. Rather, I'm bored as hell. Nothing gets me to sleep faster than lame financial talk. Boring. When is this gonna start getting good?

6) Just like my birthday, I can not wait for Christmas. I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet and it's like illegal or something to get into the Christmas spirit before Thanksgiving, but I've already started shopping for gifts. As much as I like receiving gifts, I like giving them, too. And of course, I go overboard buying for Lalea. But I think I'm actually just about done buying her gifts and so far I think I've only spent like $25 on her. Not bad! Ryan will be another story. For one, I don't have my own money this year to buy his gift so I'll just be using his credit card to buy his own presents. Not really a present then, is it?

7) I signed up with some friends to play volleyball in Spanish Fork. SF is know to be pretty competitive city league. We've signed up for the A division. We're all awesome volleyball players and we won stake regionals last year, but I really dont' see us winning too many games in the SF league. I'm telling you, this league is legit, especially the A division. We're talking collegiate level play. I'm so excited, though. But I guess this means I'll actually have to start trying in games instead of half-assing it like a usually do. Damn. I like being lazy.

Training Day 6 - Gardner Village

I'm pissed. I forgot to take a picture during this run. And this was a monumental run, too, for a couple reasons.

One, this was by far the hardest run to date. Having just come out of the holiday season, I'm pretty sure I was lugging around a few extra pounds. On Christmas and New Year's, I gorged myself on yummy goodies and party food. (For the record, those were the ONLY days that I gorged. I didn't just veg the entire 2 week holiday break. Okay. I lied. I binged on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, too. But I figure I only ate poorly for two 24 hour periods. So, like I said, only 2 days worth of vegging compared to the possible 2 weeks I could have stuffed my face. Not too bad!) And since Christmas and holidays are a time for pajamas and laziness, I didn't do too well with getting myself up and out of the house to run. I may have slacked off a bit.

So come Friday, I was feeling super guilty and dreading my team run the next morning. To feel better, I decided to finally go out for a run on my own. With all the cool new running gear I got for Christmas from The Schoenstar, I headed out for a 5 mile jog. Bad idea.

The next morning, I was so weak. Not only was my body sore, but I could still feel all the cookies and soda that I had consumed on New Year's, sitting like a brick in my stomach. From here on out, I make sure I follow my training schedule and use Friday as a rest day. That's resting from running and resting from fatty foods.

To make matters worse, the trail we were on was completely snow covered. The terrain was so uneven and slippery. The bumpy and ragged ice killed my arches, calves, and knees. To try and put a positive spin on it, we pretended that we weren't running through snow and ice but through the white sand of a Tahitian beach. And the Jordan Canal that ran parallel to the trail was, instead, breaking waves against the shoreline. Oh, and we weren't bundled up in layers of thermal and wool. We were wearing bikinis and were all super super skinny!

Another pivotal moment of this team run came at the water station. At the half way point, there was an aid station stocked with water, Gatorade, pretzels, and other energizing hydration supplements. Among the goodies were packets of Powerbar Energy Gel. Having heard mixed reviews about these high-octane packets of pure running fuel, I thought I'd try one out.

I don't know which was worse, trying to choke down the actual gel or the effect the gel had on my stomach afterward. The texture and consistency of the gel is liken unto thick yogurt. Thick, but not as creamy. It felt the way molasses looks. A dense glob, coating the sides of my throat as I tried to choke it down. Washing it down with water didn't help much. But, I did try the vanilla flavor. I hate vanilla. I bet a fruity flavor would've have gone down a bit easier.

Once it was finally down, though, it still put up a fight. Not 5 minutes back into my run, my stomach started cramping up. I had read some literature in the past about the different effects gel has on different athletes. Unfortunately for me, crapping your pants happened to be a pretty common one.

My stomach was in complete knots, which made the horrendous run just that much more difficult. I had to get back quickly in order to go to the bathroom. But I was so tired and the rough trail was so unforgiving that I just couldn't will my body to move any faster. At one point, I really thought I was gonna have to pop a squat over the trail's edge and relieve myself into the canal. Which, would have sucked, cuz I would have had to use my socks to wipe with and they were my brand new ones that Schoeny scourge TJ Maxx to find.

Luckily, the prayers of my heart were answered. The carbs, calories, and electrolytes of the gel finally kicked in the way they were supposed to and gave me the energy to propel myself forward. No poopy panties for me. I finally made it back, with burning knees and calves, just in the nick of time. Too bad though. That would have made for some good blogging material if I had crapped myself.

In all, this run was a pretty humbling one. It was physically challenging as well as emotionally daunting. Having fought through these mere 6.70, I've come to reevaluate my goals for this marathon. Before, I thought I wanted to be able to run the entire 26.2 miles in under 5 1/2 hours. Now, I just want to finish, no matter how I do it or how long it takes me. I knew from the beginning that this was going to be a tough challenge. Up until Saturday, I was ignorant as to just how challenging this task would be.

I'd love to run the entire marathon without stopping, and in 5 hours, too. But maybe I should just take it one step at a time and concentrate on simply finishing. Whether I run across that finish line in 4 hours, or I crawl across it in 6, I will complete all 26.2 miles of this marathon. But regardless of what I accomplish, the ultimate reward will have been the journey.

Here's to another 19.5 miles ahead of me.

GO TEAM!!!

Vomit

I just heard the following song on the radio. I was so appalled at the ridiculousness of the song, that I had to look up the lyrics to make sure I was hearing it correctly. Sadly, I was.

Dear Mr. Jesus, I just had to write to you

Something really scared me, when I saw it on the news

A story 'bout a little girl beaten black and blue

Jesus, thought I'd take this right to you

Dear Mr. Jesus, I don't understand

Why they took her mom and dad away

I know that they don't mean to hit with wild and angry hands

Tell them just how big they are I pray

Please don't let them hurt your children

We need love and shelter from the storm

Please don't let them hurt your children

Won't you keep us safe and warm

Dear Mr. Jesus, they say that she may die

Oh I hope the doctors stop the pain

I know that you could save her and take her up to the sky

So she would never have to hurt again

Please don't let them hurt your children..

Dear Mr. Jesus, please tell me what to do

And please don't tell my daddy

But my mommy hits me, too.

Please don't let them hurt your children...

WTF?? Seriously?!?! I don't even know where to begin or if I even should. The most ridiculous part about this song? Not the choir of children singing the chorus or the Aaron Neville wannabe doing annoying scale runs in the background. Not even the off-pitch child pretending to cry and sniffle as she's reading her letter to Jesus. No. It's the fact that people have websites DEVOTED to this song!!

Yeah, when I was Googling the song for the lyrics, I came across tons of websites saying how this song "tugged at my heartstrings," "changed my life," and "inspired me to adopt 17 orphan children." And of course, each page was flanked by pictures of cheesy cherubs, angels, and little kids praying.

These are probably the same people who love the song "Christmas Shoes."

All I want for Christmas is...

It's shaping up to be a pretty sporty Christmas.

First and foremost, I'm hoping for donations to my fundraising campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphma Society. Your tax deductible donation can be made onlne, easily and securely, by visiting my fundraising page:

http://pages.teamintraining.org/ut/ogden10/cschoenroc

Thanks in advance for any and all donations! Each contribution, no matter how small, has life saving potential.

And the meat of my Christmas list looks like this...

Winter running tights so I'll look like a legit runner ; ) and so my buns will stay roasty toasty during frigid temperatures

2Toms BlisterShield powder so I don't develop nasty blisters and bunions...sick!

Calf/shin compression sleeves to aid in recovery after shin splints threaten to burn my legs right off

Gu Energy Gel that I'll pound back every 45 minutes during my run to stay energized and hydrated so I don't die...like I almost did yesterday cuz I didn't eat or drink anything before I ran

Wind and water resistant jacket cuz I'm not about to get rained on

A high impact, full support, encapsulated sports bra to hold my boobies down so they don't bounce around and hit me in my face or cause men to get in car wrecks - I ain't no home wrecker.

A subscription to Health Magazine so I can keep both my body and mind fit...and so I can keep up on diet and fitness trends

Running shoes, which my wonderful husband already bought me. Aren't they beautiful?! Tell ya what, they feel like heaven!

And for the record, Santa, I've been an awefully good girl! So hurry down my chimney tonight!

Christmas Chronicles: Final Installment

And how do you end a wonderful Christmas holiday? With sushi and friends, of course!

In true Requilman fashion, my family and I went to Sushi Ya to have all you can eat sushi. I think we put away about 13 rolls between 4 of us.
Saturday night, Ryan's core group of friends that he grew up with had a reunion at Los Hermanos, followed by frozen yogurt at Red Mango. I've decided that Red Mango is now my favorite dessert place due to the fact that they have little mochi balls as a frozen yogurt topping. I think that was by far the best part of the entire Christmas holiday! Thumbs up to mochi!

The Christmas Chronicles: Christmas Afternoon

After spending all morning with my mom, we went over to Justy's apartment to meet up with Ken and the Schoenrock sibs. We all gave Grandpa Ken our presents and watched him rip them open. We ended up giving Ken like 60 movies, which will be just perfect for him since he's gotta go on bed rest. So, hopefully he won't burn through them too fast.

After the gift exchange, we trucked up to Thanksgiving Point to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. If you plan on seeing it, I suggest you take a box of Kleenex. With that being said, my Christmas surprisingly ended in tears!

The Christmas Chronicles: Christmas Morning

Christmas morning, Santa was good to us!
This Christmas held a couple milestones: for some of us, it was our first Christmas as a family and for others, our first Christmas in general!

We finally got around to opening presents.

Lolli got a school bus from Daddy

And a wagon from Grandpa Ken
And I got some way
cute dishes from Ry
J ended up with some protein

And somehow, the BINGO douche was resurrected!

Lili got so excited with her presents that she decided to do a break dancing routine to show her enthusiasm!

After about 4 hours of opening presents, this was the aftermath: a huge rubbish pile, and happy faces!

The Christmas Chronicles: Christmas Eve

For my fan club that has been DYING to know what I did over Christmas break, I'm gonna start off slow. I'll document the events in chronological order, and just take one day at a time. We'll start with Christmas Eve.

In Ryan's family, it's traditional to spend Christmas Eve and Grandma and Grandpa Taylor's house. So, we dressed Lolli up in her party dress and headed on down to Salem.

To wait for everyone else to arrive, Ry and I headed downstairs to Grandpa's bar, which I like to call The Ol' Barge.

FINALLY, everyone showed up and met us downstairs for dinner.

Even Quasimodo made an appearance.

But seriously, dinner was DELICIOUS! Ham never tasted so good! Thank you HoneyBaked!!

We finally ended the evening with Grandma Taylor telling the story about the white stocking, and all of us writing down a goal to place in the stocking, in hopes of completing it by Christmas next year. My goal was to stop hating stupid people so much...like that'll happen!!!!

12.23.2008

Mele Kalikimaka is the Thing to Say

To all of you who haven't received our Christmas card yet, and to those who obviously weren't that important to me or my family to receive one in the first place...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

BTW, if you didn't receive one, it's not that you're not important. It's probably 'cause I didn't have your address and I was too lazy to ask for it. So don't get your panties in a bunch.

Musings: Christmas Presents

I've decided that it's time I start asserting my opinion...as if I haven't been doing that already. Therefore, I've created a category of my blog entitled Musings. As one would expect, this category will contain all my thoughts on a particular subject. You don't have to agree, or disagree with my opinions. Shoot, you don't even have to read! I don't need your approval to feel validated! I just wanna write!

So, to get the ball rolling, I thought I'd start off by talking about Christmas presents. Tis the season, ya know?!

The main thing I struggle with is this: why do people throw themselves into debt each year just because it's Christmas? Why is Christmas the time to start spending? Why not just accrue debt all year long? That way, it'd be like Christmas everyday! I mean, I get the fact that Christmas is the time to be generous and giving, but isn't it more important to be giving of ourselves rather than giving of Xbox 360s? I'm pretty sure that the true meaning of Christmas is supposed to be focused on Christ's birth, not centered around Juicy Couture purses and plasma TVs.

Yet every year, I find myself maxing out my credit card just so I can get Ryan that perfect present. But, I think this year I've finally reached my limit. Sorry, Honey. No surprise rims for your car hiding in the closet this year. Mama Toot is way too far into debt to buy you anything more than a hoodie from TJ Maxx.

Besides, like I said, we should be giving of ourselves anyways, not of our wallets. So this year, I'm gonna give you unconditional love and adoration as a gift. Now isn't that more satisfying than a new Range Rover? We're already in it for the long haul, time and all eternity. So instead of buying you any gifts, I'm just gonna remind you of the most important gift you could ever have and wish for...ME!!! The woman who bore your child after a miserable and whiny pregnancy. The woman who has worse bawdy humor than most men you know. The woman who bought massage oil, vowing to give you a back rub, but who has yet to live up to that promise. The woman who forces you to play board games with the family.

For your gift this year, I'm just going to shower you with those memories and experiences. Little Baby Jesus will surely approve of that instead of some frivilous material good. And since it's from the heart, I'm sure you'll enjoy it more than a new laptop, don't ya think?

You're right. I guess I'll just open up another credit card and head over to Best Buy.

I Love to See el Templo

Just as I was late posting our Deer Valley adventures, I'm getting behind on posting our trip to Temple Square. Bare with me.

This last Saturday it started snowing like crazy! So naturally, we thought it'd be a great day to try and four wheel it up to Salt Lake and then freeze to death while we looked at the lights at Temple Square. Luckily, our friends the Poulsens drove their huge 4x4 truck and we got up to SLC safe and sound. Too bad the same can't be said for the 4 cars we saw flipped over and along I15. Sucks for them!!!!

But before we actually went to Temple Square, we stopped at Chipotle for some dinner. Man, if there's one thing I miss about California, it's Chipotle being only 5 minutes away. I love me some beefy burrittos!!!!

Ry sure did devour his food!
Candice and I
posed the whole time.
And the babies
just sat and looked worried.

Once we finally got into SLC and actually found a parking space, we were quickly smacked in the face by the weather. We were absolutely freezing!!!

Poor Lollipop. She was bundled up like the kid from A Christmas Story

But even though it was cold, we still walked around and got some fun pictures for blogging and Christmas card purposes.

And we so badly wanted to get a picture of all of us, but didn't know who to ask.
Then, we saw some professional photographer with his million dollar camera shooting pictures of the reflecting pool behind us.

So we asked him if he would mind taking a picture of us with our own little crappy cameras. He was nice and said yes.

And let's face it. This was probably the best shot he got all night.

Anyways, once our butt cheeks had gone completely numb, we decided it was about time to head back home. Thanks again to Pokey and Candice for the fun night!!
